I’ve gotten so many responses from friends and I am not sure what to do. My baby is just under 2 weeks old. She is already up to 3 1/2 to 4 oz at a time. Someone told me to burp her after every 1/2 oz, but most of the time, she won’t. So I increased it to every oz, and again, most of the time, she won’t. How often does a 2 week old infant eating that much need to be burped? Thank you so much – first time mom here!

ive always burped bub at the end of a feed, if she pulls away and fusses through the feed then burp but like my girl she may only need a burp at the end
u have to give a baby a break when they eat. to come up for air. i would usually wait till she was half way done, give her a breather for about a minute then try and burp her. usually that worked. if u burp them too soon they will spit it up, so let ur baby breath before burping
With bottle feeding I would just pause half way and burp her, then burp at the end too. If she stops feeding more often during the feed you can try burping her. It also depends how hungry she is, if she wants to keep drinking don’t insist she burps.
Don’t worry, you will soon get a routine going, and it won’t matter what everyone else says because YOU will know your baby best.
I breastfeed, so i don’t know if it’s different…but i generally burpe once when we have finished a side and then again at the end.
Some babies to always burp straight away…sometimes you have to lie them down and pick them up again….but don’t stress too much if she doesn’t burp all the time…she’ll let you know if she needs to.
Usually half way through for a 5 minute period then after the bottle for another 5 min period this was very sound advise from a new mums 24 hour hotline babies should feed for 20 mins then be burped for 10 mins
i always burped my boys when they reached around half way & i just made sure they had a good size burp before giving the rest. I also gave them a longer burp a night just incase they would get colicy.. so hope this helps
It totally depends on the baby. If she doesn’t want to burp and is comfortable, just don’t bother. I never burped either of my kids.
I’ve never heard of burping every 1/2 oz, though. I mean, come on, that’s eight times a bottle! Nobody does that! Do they?
My daughters 4 months and she drinks 4-5 oz a feeding and I burp her about 2.5 oz and when shes done she burps herself. Some may need more or less to burp it just depends on the baby. When we were in hospital the nurses said to burp her every 1/2 oz because their stomachs are so small when first born but she never did that so basically she told us when it was time.
I would burp my guy after each feeding. Sometimes he would burp and sometimes he wouldn’t. It funny b/c the times I forgot to burp him, you would be able to tell b/c he would get fussy a short time later. Stomache I’m sure. I felt so bad.
My boy was very gassy, spit up a lot and had a touch of reflux. The pediatrician recommended burping after every ounce. Sometimes you have to work on it a bit longer to get that burp but most times it does come eventually. It did seem to ease the spit up. If you can’t get her to burp after each oz. give her a bit more and try again. If you find she’s fine burping every 2 oz. go with that. As they get older you don’t have to burp them as often during a feeding. Each baby is different. What works for one might not work for another so just let her be your guide. If she starts to spit up more and/or more frequently you need to burp her more.
Good luck and congratulations!
At that age I tried to burp after each oz. She might not do it, but I tried because she had a good bit of spit up.
